Report: UEFA request set to cause Tottenham further headache

UEFA have reportedly inflicted a fixture headache onto Tottenham Hotspur after requesting if they can move one of their domestic fixtures in December, according to the Daily Mail.

Tottenham’s final match of their Group G campaign was due to take place against Rennes in North London on Thursday, but was postponed after eight players and five members of staff tested positive for Covid-19.

Today’s Premier League clash away to Brighton and Hove Albion was also shelved due to the outbreak which Antonio Conte’s side are currently dealing with.

UEFA’s rules state that all group fixtures must be completed by December 31 (ESPN) and the European football’s governing body have asked Tottenham to consider asking the Premier League or the English Football League if they are prepared to push one of this month’s matches into next year to accommodate the clash against the French outfit.

Tottenham’s current December schedule is full with matches set to take place against Leicester City, Liverpool, West Ham (Carabao Cup), Crystal Palace and Southampton.

Thursday night’s trip to Leicester City in the Premier League is also said to be in doubt due to the Covid crisis at the club.

The Premier League and a place in the top four should certainly be the priority over the Europa Conference League and if the match cannot be accommodated, UEFA should simply eliminate us with no sanctions.
