Report: UEFA to make ‘major rule change’ that could impact Spurs next year

The Sun have reported that UEFA are making a major rule change ahead of the 2021/22 European season, which could impact Tottenham Hotspur.

It is claimed that new regulations will be announced next week, stating that there will be a change to the current away goal rules in European competitions.

Currently, in the event of a draw at the end of the two legs of a knockout tie, the team with the most away goals goes through. If this still results in a tie, then the game goes to extra time.

However, the new rules will scrap away goals for the extra time period, meaning that each side has the away goal advantage for just 90 minutes. Otherwise, the visiting side in the second leg can have an advantage when the game goes to extra time.

The Sun claim that this new set of rules has been backed by the top teams around Europe and there will be a vote on it this Friday.
