Report: United close to admitting defeat in efforts to lure Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been heavily linked with the Manchester United job after the club decided to part ways with Jose Mourinho in the middle of December.

While Pochettino has insisted that he wants to stay at Tottenham for 20 years and build a legacy at the club (BBC), he has also not ruled out the possibility of leaving, thus making some Spurs fans nervous.

Former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has been appointed as interim manager until the end of the sason, has had a spectacular start in the hot seating guiding the Red Devils to 9 wins in the first 10 games, including a 1-0 win against Pochettino’s Spurs at Wembley.

This has led to growing calls for the Norwegian to be given the job on a full-time basis.

According to a report in The Mirror, Solskjaer might be really close to being appointed as United’s full-time manager after the club have all but admitted defeat in their efforts to lure Pochettino.

The report claims that the United hierarchy are growing increasingly skeptical about getting Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to release Pochettino from his contract.

This comes as great news for Spurs fans as losing the Argentine would have been a major blow for the club.
