Report: Upcoming Spurs opponent suffer goalkeeper crisis

Tottenham Hotspur are set to face Stoke City in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday 23 December, just a couple of days before Christmas.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping for an early Xmas present in the form of a cup semi-final while a young man within Stoke’s ranks may be dreaming of a debut.

Stoke City are currently amid somewhat of a goalkeeping crisis, potentially forcing them to start their seventh-choice shot-stopper (StokeSentinel).

Joe Bursik is cup-tied in the competition, Adam Davies, Angus Gunn, Niki Maenpaa, and Nathan Broome are all injured and Andy Lonergan has been suffering from illness.

Therefore, Michael O’Neill may be forced to hand a debut to 19-year-old Blondy Nna Noukeu, with 18-year-old Robbie Hemfrey potentially coming up to the bench.

However, there is still a chance that Lonergan could recover in time for the match, although the 37-year-old has not played a professional game since March 2019.

Lonergan and Maenpaa both joined Stoke as emergency signings, yet could still miss out for the clash against Tottenham.
