Antonio Nusa’s move to Brentford appears to be off, with the Club Brugge man now more likely to switch in the summer. But, with more time to assess the situation, it is thought Tottenham Hotspur or Chelsea could hijack Brentford’s approach.
After weeks of speculation, Antonio Nusa has gone from almost certainly joining Tottenham, to carrying out a medical at Brentford, to now looking likely to not get any transfer at all—at least for now.
The young winger was the subject of a €30m (£25.7m) proposal from Tottenham last week, with The Athletic revealing the switch would see Nusa stay on loan with Club Brugge before joining Spurs officially in the summer.
Despite interest from elsewhere, Spurs were confident of getting a deal across the line. That is, until Brentford sensationally moved to wrap up the transfer for themselves, with personal terms and a fee being agreed swiftly (Fabrizio Romano).
Then, another twist in the tale came, as Nusa failed his medical with Brentford due to knee and back issues (Ben Jacobs).

Spurs could steal Antonio Nusa from Brentford
It would seem Nusa moving to the Premier League is more a matter of when, rather than if, but which club he joins remains to be seen. According to Sky Sports, Brentford are now looking to complete the transfer in the summer, but they may be usurped by Spurs or Chelsea.
It is said Brentford are now “in no rush” to sign Nusa during the winter window, and the Bees remain Nusa’s preferred destination. It is not yet known whether Club Brugge would be looking to “renegotiate” the agreement in the summer.
However, both Tottenham and Chelsea remain interested and could return with a fresh approach in the summer. Either way, it seems no club is willing to make a move before tonight’s transfer deadline.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Antonio Nusa can prove his fitness then sure, we should go back for him in the summer. But if there are any concerns at all over his condition, we should walk away from this. The last thing we need is another perennially injured youngster on our books.
