Report: Update on Eric Dier and possible new centre-back signings at Spurs

Football Insider have revealed that Eric Dier’s future at Tottenham Hotspur depends on potential new arrivals that come through the door over the next two weeks.

We have heard contradictory reports over Dier’s future over the past few days after Ange Postecoglou made the decision to leave the centre-back out of the matchday squad against Brentford.

Earlier this week, Alasdair Gold claimed via Football.London that the England international wants to stay and fight for his place, and as things stand, he is expected to remain at Hotspur Way as a squad player.

However, on Tuesday, 90 min asserted that Spurs are already listening to offers for the 29-year-old, who is alleged to be attracting interest from England, Scotland, Germany, Portugal, France and Saudi Arabia.

Dier’s future depends on Tottenham incomings

Football Insider have now asserted that Spurs will look to offload Dier if their late summer business ‘goes to plan’.

The report explains that new arrivals in defence could push the experienced centre-back further down the pecking order, meaning that the player could be open to a departure.

The outlet asserts that Dier’s future thus depends entirely hinges ‘on the status of any new arrivals’, with many clubs said to have been ‘alerted’ about the former Sporting Lisbon man potentially being available for a cut-price fee late in the window.

My reading of the situation is that Tottenham are prioritising a move for another right-sided centre-back (potentially Perr Shuurs) and that would not affect Dier’s situation, with Tanganga and Sanchez expected to depart the club.

However, if Spurs get someone like Shuurs and also manage to secure Clement Lenglet as a backup to the left centre-back role, that would likely mean that Dier would be offloaded before the window slams shut.
