Bryan Gil’s potential inclusion in the Spanish national team which is set to be announced tomorrow could prove to be key to Valencia’s hopes of keeping him at the club, according to El Desmarque.
The report claims that Valencia are keen to keep hold of the Tottenham Hotspur winger for a further season, after he returned back to his homeland in the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old joined Tottenham from Sevilla in the summer, penning a five-year contract with the north London outfit but struggled to make an impression during his first half-season in England, making just nine Premier League substitute appearances equating to just 86 minutes of top flight football (transfermarkt).
Gil has impressed during his short stint at the Mestalla Stadium and is now said to be on the ‘pre-list’ of Luis Enrique ahead of his squad announcement for the upcoming friendlies against Albania and Iceland later this month.
The report claims that Gil’s potential call-up to the national team would be further justification for Valencia to request an extension from Tottenham with their belief that he will not be a regular under Antonio Conte next season and could be in contention for a place in Spain’s squad for the World Cup later this year.

Conte hinted earlier this year that some players despite their talent are not cut out for the Premier League (Guardian), whether Spurs will allow him to remain in Spain for another season to try and maximise his value rather than see him be a bit-part player in England remains to be seen.
