Tottenham Hotspur opened up their 2019/20 season with a win on Saturday after beating Aston Villa 3-1 at the new Spurs stadium.
However, there was controversy before the match even started, as Jan Vertonghen was left out of the matchday squad by Pochettino.
The Argentine was reportedly unimpressed with Vertonghen’s fitness levels at the start of this new season, lumping for Davinson Sanchez in his place (Daily Mail).
Tottenham were cut apart in the centre of defence by Villa in the first half, so whether or not it was the correct decision, we will never know.
However, Vertonghen apparently did not react well to the news and was left ‘fuming’ by his manager’s decision.
In fact, Vertonghen was so angry that the Daily Mail claim his teammates were surprised that he actually stayed to watch the match, rather than leaving the stadium completely.
Spurs fans will be hoping that these problems are resolved in time for the huge match away to Man City this weekend.
Have something to tell us about this article?
What a waste of ink!!
What a waste of a comment :)
In what sense were Spurs “cut apart”. Team has one attack and scores one goal.
Can you find a real story to write instead of this crap?
Did you watch the game mate? They were the better team in the first half and constantly found joy with balls down the flanks and direct passes between the centre-backs
Your are talking/writing absolute crap.
They did have at least 2 very good goal scoring chances, which they didn’t take, so to that extent the opened up our deffence about 3 times in the firs5 half.
