Report: Vertonghen verbally offered two-year contract with club

According to a report by Corriere Dello Sport Roma have verbally agreed on a deal to sign Jan Vertonghen after his contract with Tottenham Hotspur came to an end.

Some Spurs fans were quite emotional as the centre-back left North London after eight fantastic years of service.

The 33-year-old has since admitted that he has already made a decision on his next destination but did not reveal the identity of the club (talkSPORT).

Corriere Dello Sport claim that the unnamed club could be Roma with the Serie A side having made a move for the former Tottenham man following their failure to sign Chris Smalling.

It is claimed that Roma could not agree on a fee with Manchester United for the England international and have swiftly shifted their attentions to Vertonghen.

Roma sporting director Franco Baldini, who previously worked at Spurs is said to have reached a verbal agreement with Vertonghen’s representatives on a two-year contract worth €3million (£2.7m) per year.

The report suggests that the agreement now just has to be formalised.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe that the Serie A will be a perfect fit for Vertonghen. He still looks fit and he could potentially have a couple of solid seasons for Roma if they manage to sign him. Hopefully, the centre-back picks up some silverware whoever he signs for as he certainly deserves it for the career he has had.
