Report: Want-away Spurs midfielder set to report for pre-season training

When Christian Eriksen came out soon after the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool and expressed his desire to leave North London and play for Real Madrid (Ekstra Bladet), most thought that a move to the Spanish capital was imminent for the Dane with manager Zinedine Zidane becoming active in the transfer market following a poor season.

However, the deal as stalled with many reports suggesting that the Los Blancos are still weighing up their options between Eriksen and Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba (AS).

Now, a report in Spanish media outlet El Desmarque suggests that the Real Madrid are still keen on Eriksen but that the two clubs are still around £20 million apart in their respective valuations of the Danish international.

So with this saga unresolved, the 27-year-old is set to report back at Spurs for pre-season training. A report in The Telegraph suggests that the playmaker is expected to return to pre-season training by the end of the week before the club fly to Asia for their tour of the far east next Wednesday.

It is claimed that the final group of Tottenham players, including Eriksen, Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertongen are due to report at the club’s training ground on Thursday and Friday respectively.

If Tottenham are going to let the Dane leave this summer, as is likely, then it would be prudent of the club to get the deal done quickly even if it means losing out on a few million, so that the club will have the time to reinvest the funds on someone like Giovani Lo Celso.
