Report: West Ham and Newcastle battling it out for rumoured Spurs target

The Daily Star have revealed that West Ham United and Newcastle are both attempting to sign rumoured Tottenham target Jesse Lingard before the January transfer window closes.

Lingard’s current deal at Old Trafford runs out in June and the midfielder has struggled to get game time under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick this season.

Sky Sports reported earlier this month that Spurs have made contact with the Manchester United midfielder’s representatives over a free transfer in the summer.

The Daily Mail have suggested that the England international would prefer a free transfer abroad at the end of the season, rather than remain in the Premier League.

However, The Daily Star have claimed that Lingard could be on his way out of United this month, with the midfielder currently thought to be ‘weighing up’ a departure.

The report reveals that David Moyes remains a ‘huge admirer’ of the 29-year-old and seeks to reunite with him at West Ham following his successful six-month loan spell at the London Stadium last season.

However, the Hammers are thought to be facing competition from Newcastle, with the Magpies said to be willing to offer £3m to sign Lingard prefer the window slams shut.

Spurs Web Opinion

One would expect Man Utd to cash in on Lingard this month in order to avoid losing him for free in the summer. While I see the 29-year-old as being a good fit for Conte’s system, he might prefer to join West Ham or Newcastle since he is more likely to be a regular starter at those clubs.
