Report: West Ham and Newcastle both interested in Spurs attacking target

A new report from Voce Giallorossa suggests Premier League West Ham and Newcastle may be looking to rival Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of AS Roma ace Nicolo Zaniolo during the January transfer window.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Zaniolo was very close to joining Tottenham during the summer after months of speculation, but the deal fell apart when Spurs tried to explore a part-exchange offer (Wettfreunde).

Alfredo Pedulla revealed on his website earlier this week that Spurs were still leading the race to sign Zaniolo and suggested the player could join the North London side this month.

Zaniolo has been in impressive form this season for AS Roma, with two goals and three assists in 17 games so far this term (Transfermarkt). His performances have caught the eye of other clubs now, it seems, as the latest reports from Italy suggest West Ham are entering the race to sign the 23-year-old.

The report also names Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest as potential suitors for Zaniolo. Apparently, Roma are becoming more and more open to letting the player go at some point this year, and may decide to sell up during this transfer window.

According to the report, “should an offer of around 20 – 25 million euros arrive, the Giallorossi club could seriously consider the definitive transfer as early as January.”

Voce Giallorossa goes on to claim “the player’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, has increased his telephone calls” with Roma chiefs in order to better understand the situation regarding his player.

Spurs Web Opinion

Should Spurs make a move for Zaniolo, I cannot imagine the player electing to move anywhere else. West Ham are stuck in a relegation battle right now, and that would not be a very attractive project for one of the most exciting young midfielders in Europe. Joining up with Antonio Conte at Spurs, however, could be a really good move for Zaniolo.
