Report: West Ham are leading Tottenham in the race for 35-year-old

Mais Futebol have now claimed that West Ham United are currently the frontrunners ahead of Tottenham in the race for AS Roma general manager Tiago Pinto.

Alasdair Gold clarified in his column on Football.London on Tuesday that despite various reports to the contrary, neither Lee Dykes nor Johannes Spors are in contention to replace Fabio Paratici at Tottenham.

The journalist explained, however, that Pinto, as well as ex-Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Tim Steidten, were on Spurs’ shortlist for the sporting director role.

Gold revealed that Pinto was previously also on Liverpool and West Ham’s radars and that the Portuguese director is seen by some as the most natural replacement for Paratici.

However, if Mais Futebol‘s latest update is to be believed, while Tottenham do have an eye on the Roma man, it is West Ham who are in pole position to snap him up this summer.

The publication explains that Tottenham have only reached out to Pinto through an intermediary to assess whether he would be available, while the Hammers hierarchy have already held meetings with the Portuguese director.

It is also revealed that the 35-year-old has ‘never hidden the ambition’ of working in the Premier League and that he will make a final decision on his future at the end of the season.

While Paratici’s recruitment decisions were generally excellent, his choice of managers did not match Tottenham’s alleged vision of wanting to play attacking football.

I see the same issue with Pinto as his managerial appointments at the Stadio Olimpico have been far from inspiring.
