Report: West Ham now leading race for Spurs-linked Serie A star

The Daily Express have claimed that West Ham United are now the front-runners to sign Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham this summer.

Tottenham finally seem to have struck a deal with Atalanta for the transfer of Cristian Romero, if the latest reports are to be believed.

However, the North London club are also thought to be keen on adding another central defender to their squad, with Milenkovic thought to be among the names on the Lilywhites’ radar.

Reports from Italy indicated last month that Fabio Paratici had contacted the 23-year-old’s agent regarding a potential move.

The Serbian international is allegedly valued by Fiorentina at around €25-30m (£21.5-£26m).

It now looks like Milenkovic might be bound for the London Stadium if The Daily Express’ latest report is to be believed.

The report reveals that, with Tottenham prioritising a deal for Romero, the Hammers have moved into pole position for the Fiorentina star.

It is explained that David Moyes’ side explored a deal for Milenkovic in January and might now be able to get a deal for the player over the line, with the Serie A club open to cashing in on the defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

It was pretty evident from the start that the likes of Milenkovic and Zouma were backup options for Spurs in case a deal for Romero fell through.

The Argentine was clearly Fabio Paratici’s number one target and it is a sign of ambition that the club have seemingly paid extra for the Atlanta man rather than settling for cheaper alternatives like Milenkovic.
