Report: West Ham player speaks about his future amid rumoured Spurs interest

Reports are certainly gaining traction suggesting that Tottenham are likely to be in the market for a central defender this summer to replace Jan Vertonghen, whose contract with the club will soon run out (Football.London).

One of the names to have been linked with Spurs is West Ham United’s Issa Diop.

Sky Sports reported back in January that the 23-year-old’s was identified by Jose Mourinho as the man to replace Vertonghen.

TEAMtalk have installed the Lilywhites as the favourites for the West Ham star’s signature in the summer and claimed that the Hammers might decide to cash in on him when the transfer market opens.

The Frenchman has now revealed that he is focused on his football and in becoming the best player he can be rather than paying attention to the rumours surrounding his future.

When asked about the speculation regarding where he’ll end up next season, Diop told Europe1: “Frankly, I don’t pay much attention to it, I try to be the best footballer I can be.

“After all, we know the media, it’s part of football, I’m just trying to have the best season possible.”

Diop perfectly fits the profile of centre-halves that Jose Mourinho likes as he is aggressive, dominant, quick and is good at defending one vs one situations. The fact that he also has a couple of years of Premier League experience under his belt is an added bonus.
