Report: West Ham struggling to keep out-of-contract starlet linked to Tottenham

According to The Athletic, talks have stalled between West Ham United and youngster Sonny Perkins over a new contract, alerting Tottenham to his availability.

Perkins has enjoyed a prolific season for West Ham’s Under-23 side, scoring ten times and assisting once in just 20 Premier League 2 appearances (TransferMarkt).

The 18-year-old’s fine form saw him scoop West Ham’s young player of the season award (West Ham Official) and saw him rewarded with three first-team opportunities towards the end of the season, including a Premier League appearance (TransferMarkt).

However, Perkins may have played his final minutes for the Hammers, as talks between his entourage and the club regarding a new deal for the England Under-18 international have reportedly broken down (The Athletic).

Perkins is out of contract at the end of this month and there have been disagreements over his wage demands, which is why new contract talks appear to be stalling.

The Guardian claim that Aston Villa, Leeds United, and Spurs are all interested in taking on the attacking midfielder this summer if David Moyes’ side fail to agree to his contract demands.

If Perkins does leave, West Ham will be owed compensation for the player, however, this would do little to soften the blow if he chose to join London rivals Spurs.

Daniel Levy loves a player who has a high ceiling and potential sell-on value, so you would think that he would be quick to sanction a move for Perkins this summer.
