Report: West Ham to challenge Spurs for highly-rated defender

With the speculation linking Toby Alderweireld with a move away from Tottenham this summer, Spurs are said to be seeking a replacement for the Belgian international (Football.London).

One player who Tottenham are said to be tracking is Stuttgart defender Ozan Kabak (The Express).

The 19-year-old has broken into the Stuttgart team this year and managed to register 15 appearances for the Bundesliga side. The teenager has displayed maturity beyond his years and has impressed everybody with his performances which saw him bag the Rookie of the Season award.

However, Kabak’s performances weren’t enough to keep Stuttgart in the Bundesliga with the club suffering relegation from the top flight. The Turk has since become a wanted man with several clubs wishing to get him on a cut-price deal.

The Guardian now reports that West Ham United have registered their interest in signing the defender, and hope to push through a bargain deal for the youngster in the coming days but face competition from German giants Bayern Munich with his contract carrying a release clause of €15m.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Alderweireld recently hinting that he might stay at the club beyond this summer, it is unclear is Spurs need another centre half. We think it would be ideal if the club managed to hang on the Belgian for one more season and concentrated on improving other areas of the squad this summer.
