Report: What happened when Spurs were asked to comment on rumoured Conte sacking

The PA News Agency have revealed that Tottenham declined to comment on the rumours that Antonio Conte will be leaving the club this week.

The Telegraph reported last night that Spurs are expected to part ways with the Italian this week following the 3-3 draw with Southampton and his subsequent comments.

Conte took aim at the Tottenham players’ lack of fight and spirit in his post-match press conference on Saturday, accusing every single player of being selfish rather than playing for the team (Football.London).

Alasdair Gold reported that Conte had clarified with Daniel Levy that he was solely aiming his remarks at the players (Football.London).

However, if the rumours are correct, it appears this clarification may not have been enough to save Conte’s job, although we await official confirmation.

Spurs Web Opinion

We all know that top managers like Conte have a big ego, which prevents them from taking responsibility for their own failures.

So, it is not surprising that the 53-year-old is making excuses and pointing his finger at others.

What I find pathetic is the legion of Spurs fans who are defending him and painting him as some sort of martyr who is doing some noble service.

What Conte is doing is nothing but self-preservation and he does not care one bit whether the club succeeds after he is gone.
