Report: What Kompany has told his staff at Burnley amid Tottenham rumours

The Sun have revealed that Tottenham’s managerial target, Vincent Kompany, has told his backroom staff that he is staying put at Burnley next season.

Kompany has transformed Burnley since taking over at Turf Moor last summer, with the Clarets bouncing straight back into the Premier League.

However, over recent weeks, there have been doubts raised over whether the Belgian would be around to take charge of the side in the top flight next season, with his name being on Tottenham and Chelsea’s shortlists ahead of the summer (Football Insider).

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his YouTube channel on Monday that Spurs have already spoken to the Manchester City legend’s representatives regarding their managerial vacancy.

However, The Sun have now handed a blow to Tottenham in their pursuit of Kompany by revealing that the 37-year-old has told his backroom staff that he will be at Turf Moor next season.

The Clarets boss allegedly wants to ‘see the job through’ at the club after the Burnley chiefs promised to back him in the transfer market this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on what we have been reading over the last few weeks, it does appear as if Kompany is the backup option Tottenham have identified in case Nagelsmann proves to be out of their reach.

So, this development does come as a blow to the North London club. However, I am not surprised that Kompany is hesitant to jump into a big job straight away, having seen how it worked out for the likes of Frank Lampard.
