Report: What sources close to Lo Celso have said about his future plans

Mundo Deportivo have revealed that they have been told by sources close to Giovani Lo Celso that the midfielder wants to stay at Tottenham and succeed at the club.

Lo Celso’s only start so far this season came in the Carabao Cup second-round clash at Fulham, with the 27-year-old having been sidelined with a hamstring problem over the last few weeks.

This month, several Spanish outlets have indicated that both Real Betis (Fichajes) and Barcelona (Sport) are plotting January moves for the player.

Lo Celso wants to stay at Tottenham

However, Mundo Deportivo have now claimed that although Xavi Hernandez is a fan of the Tottenham man and sees him as the ‘missing’ piece of his puzzle, Barca might not be able to sign him.

This is because the Argentine wants to succeed at Spurs and has no intention of exiting the club in the January window. The publication adds that Lo Celso hopes to be ‘decisive’ in the Tottenham team as soon as he recovers from his injury.

The midfielder is allegedly keen to prove himself in the Premier League and is said to have the support of his friend, Cristian Romero, which Mundo Deportivo describe as ‘no small thing’.

If Lo Celso wanted to stay and fight for his place in the summer, I do not see why his decision would have suddenly changed, particularly given that he has been sidelined with an injury over the last month.

Having said that, Brennan Johnson’s arrival might diminish the Argentine’s chances of getting game time as the Wales international can operate in the number eight role if there is an injury to James Maddison.
