Report: What Spurs have told Pochettino about potential return

The Daily Star have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have informed Mauricio Pochettino that he is not in consideration to replace Antonio Conte.

Predictably, Pochettino has been linked with a fairytale return to Spurs, with some reports over recent weeks suggesting that senior players at the club have already reached out to the Argentine, asking him to come back to Hotspur Way (Sky Sports).

The Daily Star have now claimed that while Pochettino was ‘ready’ to return to N17 after Conte’s departure, Spurs have decided to look elsewhere.

The report adds that the North London club’s hierarchy had ‘brief talks’ with the 51-year-old and informed him of their desire to move forward with a new coach and new voice at the helm.

The publication adds that Julian Nagelsmann, Burnley’s Vincent Kompany and Brentford’s Thomas Frank remain among chairman Daniel Levy’s preferred candidates to take over while Feyenoord’s Arne Slot remains a ‘strong contender’ for the job.

While it is clear that Pochettino is not Tottenham’s top target, I would be surprised if Levy had completely closed the door on the Argentine returning to the club, especially since Nagelsmann is likely to prove hard to get.

If anything, I believe that the recent developments over Paratici’s future have only increased the chances of Pochettino returning as it seemed like the Italian was the one who was against the idea.
