The Athletic have reported that Takehiro Tomiyasu is the closest transfer to completion for Spurs this summer, which could have an impact on any move for Norwich City star, Max Aarons.

Tomiyasu is known for his flexibility, being able to play at centre-back or right-back, as well as having experience in a back three.

The Athletic reported earlier this week that Spurs were closing in on a deal worth around £15m plus add-ons for the defender.

As the Japanese international can cover at right-back, it is said that Max Aarons, who The Athletic describe as a long-term Tottenham target, would be less of a priority this summer.

Tottenham currently have Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty at right-back, while Japhet Tanganga can also cover there as a more defensive option.

Sky Sports reported in June that Tottenham had renewed their interest in Max Aarons ahead of the summer transfer window. However, if The Athletic are to be believed, it appears that Tomiyasu coming in would push Aarons back on the transfer to-do list.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I am not a fan of the lop-sided defence we played under Mourinho and hope Tomiyasu isn’t being brought in for that purpose. I would prefer the Japan star playing at right-centre-back, with Max Aarons at right-wing-back if possible.
