Report: What Tottenham are saying about Conte still being at home in Italy

The Evening Standard have revealed that Antonio Conte had not returned to London as of Friday and it remains unclear when he is expected back at Hotspur Way.

The fact that Tottenham are yet to announce Conte’s departure may be quite surprising to many as reports indicated at the start of this week that Daniel Levy is expected to call time on the project (Telegraph).

The Evening Standard have potentially shed light on why there is not yet any official confirmation, revealing that the Spurs head coach remains in Italy for the time being.

The publication states that he flew to his home country to be with his family following Tottenham’s 3-3 draw at Southampton and had not returned to the club as of Friday.

It is explained that Spurs are continuing to insist that it is ‘not unusual’ for the 53-year-old to take an extended break and that no return date has been set for Conte to return to the training ground.

Finally, The Evening Standard add that the Tottenham hierarchy are continuing to weigh up the Italian’s future and that the senior players at the club do not expect Conte to be in charge for the clash against Everton on April 3.

The fact that Conte has still not returned to Hotspur Way is perhaps a clear indication that all parties expect to part ways sooner rather than later.

Spurs might be communicating with their lawyers to figure out the sort of compensation that they would owe the Italian and whether they could put him on gardening leave.
