Report: Why Dejan Kulusevski is missing for Spurs against Aston Villa

Eyebrows were raised among Tottenham Hotspur fans when the team selection was announced for the match against Aston Villa after Dejan Kulusevski’s name was nowhere to be seen.

The Swede has already suffered a stop-start campaign after he was sidelined earlier in the season for ten matches after picking up a hamstring injury while on international duty (transfermarkt).

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed on Twitter that the reason for Kulusevski’s absence in the first game of 2023 is due to an unspecified muscular injury and he will undergo an MRI tomorrow for further assessment, however, he is only expected to miss one match.

Tottenham looked short of ideas when they were unable to call upon the services of the 22-year-old earlier this season which has led to the club looking to prioritise another attacking player in this month’s transfer window (Football.London).

Kulusevski’s absence is a massive blow for Tottenham’s creative hopes with the Swede pivotal to the north Londoners in the final third, it will now be up to Bryan Gil to try to impress in his absence, even it it means putting himself in the shop window for a loan move this month.
