According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Philipp Hinze, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou made it clear he wanted the club to sign Timo Werner this month. And, the player himself believes he can work well in Postecoglou’s system at Spurs.
In a move that no one saw coming, Timo Werner is now ‘on the verge’ of joining Tottenham on loan until the end of the season (Florian Plettenberg).
With Spurs looking to add a new wide attacker to their squad, things have moved fast regarding Werner’s proposed move to North London, with Fabrizio Romano claiming the player will have his medical and begin training with the club soon.
A report from The Athletic suggests the deal is very close to completion, too, with Spurs expected to cover Werner’s salary for the next six months. There is also believed to be a purchase option ranging from £12.9-17.2m should Spurs wish to keep Werner long term.
Werner and Postecoglou are a match made in heaven
There is a feeling that this move could be a match made in heaven between Werner and Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou. According to Philipp Hinze, the Australian was a “big advocate” for the move, and Werner is a player he “really wants.”
The feeling is mutual, too, with Werner believing he can slot into Postecoglou’s system perfectly and perform at his best, as per Fabrizio Romano on YouTube. Romano also revealed that Werner “can’t wait” to work with the Spurs manager.
Spurs Web Opinion
I love it when players are so eager to join Spurs, and a big factor in that is clearly Ange Postecoglou. This manager has made our club such a desirable place to be, and I think we will see some big players wanting to join in the summer, especially if we land a spot in the top four.
