Tottenham’s hopes of landing Eberechi Eze before the transfer deadline may be over as Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the attacking midfielder’s release clause has now expired.

Tottenham were linked with Eberechi Eze
Eze has been heavily linked with a move away from Selhurst Park all summer, with Tottenham named as one of the clubs keen on the attacking midfielder (Football Insider).
More recently, Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old, with Pep Guardiola alleged to be a big fan of the player (TEAMtalk).
It has been reported over recent weeks that Palace are optimistic about keeping hold of the England international who was protected by a huge release clause, which involved an initial fee of £60m plus another £8m in add-ons down the road (GiveMeSport).

Eberechi Eze’s release clause expires
Romano has taken to social media to confirm that the release clause in Eze’s contract expired on Friday and is now no longer active.
That means that any club wanting to sign the former QPR star will have to go to the negotiating table to strike a deal with the Eagles.
Simply put, if Crystal Palace do not want to sell – and it seems like they don’t – then Eberechi Eze will remain an Eagles player for the 2024/25 season.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think this changes much in the Eze transfer saga as no club were likely to meet the attacking midfielder’s release clause anyway.
It now seems increasingly likely that the 25-year-old will remain in South London for at least one more season because they clearly don’t want to sell him and Olise in the same window.
