Report: Winger linked with Spurs could set to renew contract at Ligue 1 club

TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Florian Thauvin could be about to sign a new contract with Marseille.

Thauvin has been one of the most consistent wide players in Ligue 1 over recent years, with his nine seasons at Marseille only being interrupted by an unsuccessful six-month spell at Newcastle in 2015.

The 28-year-old, whose contract with the French giants runs out at the end of the season, was reported to be on Tottenham’s radar back in January.

Estadio Deportivo also credited Spurs with interest in the French international last month, suggesting that he was set to leave the Orange Velodrome this summer, with Marseille struggling to meet his wage demands.

However, while covering AC Milan’s rumoured interest in Thauvin, TMW have claimed that the winger could be about to commit his future to the Ligue 1 club.

The report reveals that recent negotiations between Marseille and the player’s representatives are promising, with Thauvin now ‘convinced’ about putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

While the priority in the summer has to be addressing our weakness at centre-back, right-back and midfield, I also think we could see a shakeup as far as the wide options are concerned. Bale’s future is still up in the air while I would also potentially expect the club to cash in on one of Bergwijn, Lucas or Lamela. So, we could be in the market for a wide forward this summer.
