Report: Winger’s contract talks with club breakdown amidst Spurs interest

Journalist Gerard Romero has reported that Ousmane Dembele’s talks over a new contract with Barcelona have now broken down amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Dembele’s current deal at the Camp Nou runs out in the summer and it was previously reported that Spurs were one of the clubs showing interest in snapping up the winger in the January transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano claimed last week that the Catalan giants had opened talks with the 24-year-old’s representatives regarding a new contract and they were ‘confident’ an agreement would be reached.

On Monday, The French international gave a major hint that he was about to commit his future to Barca by posting a picture of the club’s crest on his Instagram stories.

However, it now looks as though there is another twist in Dembele’s contract saga, which could come as a boost to Spurs.

Romero has now reported that the former Borussia Dortmund man has not renewed his deal and the talks between the parties over a contract have halted.

There could well be more twists and turns in this saga, given that Barca seem keen to hang on to Dembele. I have my doubts if the 24-year-old would be a good fit for Conte, given how demanding the Italian is of his forwards out of possession. However, the winger’s talent has never been in question and perhaps a fresh start away from Barca could rejuvenate his career.
