Report: Wolves are now leading the race to sign Spurs-linked midfielder

Wolves are leading the race to sign rumoured Tottenham target Joao Palhinha this summer, according to Record (via Sport Witness),

Spurs reportedly had offers rejected by Sporting Lisbon for Palhinha during last summer’s transfer window (Daily Star).

The print edition of O Jogo (27/04/22 via Sport Witness) revealed recently that Sporting have decided to cash in on the Portugal international and Tottenham were facing competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Wolves for the midfielder.

If Record’s update (6/5/22 – print edition) is to be believed, Wolves have identified Palhinha as their preferred choice to replace Ruben Neves, who is expected to leave Molineux this summer.

The report claims Bruno Lage’s side are the favourites to land the 26-year-old and are set to present an offer.

Record also reveal that Sporting value Palhinha at around €30m (£25.6m) and while the report does not mention Spurs, they state that Atletico Madrid are also interested in the player ahead of the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Palhinha’s stock has dropped considerably since last summer, owing to the injury-hit season he had. If Paratici and Conte are eyeing the 26-year-old, I think they would only be considering him as a squad player to replace Harry Winks. I am not convinced that the Portuguese star would improve our starting eleven.
