Report: Wolves join race to sign centre-back linked with Spurs and West Ham

Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Marseille centre-back Duje Caleta-Car, according to Sky Sports.

The 24-year-old is also reportedly wanted by two other Premier League clubs in the shape of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

Spurs’ interest in securing the centre-back was reported by Croatian outlet Sportklub who went as far as to claim that ‘Car will continue his career in Tottenham’.

However, West Ham’s interest is more widespread. L’Equipe reported two weeks ago that the Hammers had submitted a bid worth £11.9m for the Croatian international.

As for Wolves, their chances of winning the race for the centre-back seem like an uphill battle, as the Sky Sports report suggested that Car wants to continue playing in a European competition, which Wolves can’t offer while Spurs and West Ham can.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Marseille need to sell players to balance the books so are willing to sell their defender for a fee in the region of £17m.

Spurs need an extra defender; Romero isn’t enough. Car is a good defender at a good age, and the price reported seems very feasible. Funnily enough, West Ham probably have the most pulling power with them in the Europa League which is rather sad.
