Report: Worrying news for Spurs and David Raya as Brentford could play hardball

The Daily Mail have claimed that Brentford might be prepared to let Tottenham target David Raya rot on the bench next season if his valuation is not met this summer.

A couple of days ago, we covered a report from The Times which revealed that Tottenham had agreed on personal terms with Raya but the outlet stated there was still no agreement between the two clubs on a fee.

It was explained that the Lilywhites had no intention of meeting Brentford’s £40m asking price, given that the Spaniard has just 12 months left on his contract at the West London Club.

This was subsequently followed by an update from talkSPORT (June 12) that the goalkeeper was pushing Thomas Frank’s men to green-light a move to Tottenham.

Brentford could play hardball with Spurs and Raya

However, if The Mail are to be believed, Brentford appear unlikely to budge on their asking price for the 27-year-old and are willing to play hardball with Spurs.

The report claims that with the Bees now having already signed Mark Flekken from Freiburg, they could leave Raya on the bench for the 2023-24 campaign to make their point.

This negotiating tactic would certainly be familiar to Levy as it is essentially the same one he is employing with Harry Kane.

However, while Tottenham genuinely seem prepared to allow Kane to run into the final year of his deal, Brentford appear to have given away their hand by signing Flekken.

I suspect that the Bees would be willing to accept a fee of around £30m for Raya this summer.
