Report: Spurs-linked Zaniolo has one summer transfer in mind, family ready for legal battle with Roma

Italian publication Il Messaggero have revealed that Nicolo Zaniolo, who was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in January, is ready to take AS Roma to court after a transfer did not materialise during the January window.

Until a little over a week ago, some publications claimed that Tottenham were edging closer to an agreement with Roma for Zaniolo (90 min).

However, Spurs seemingly abandoned their pursuit of the 23-year-old last week and instead decided to snap up Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal.

The winger subsequently rejected an offer from Bournemouth while AC Milan were unable to strike an agreement with Roma for the attacker before the transfer window slammed shut (CalcioMercato).

Il Messaggero now assert that Zaniolo has no way back at Roma, having been frozen out by Jose Mourinho, and is waiting to leave the Stadio Olimpico at the end of the season.

The publication claim that the Italy international believes ‘Milan will be waiting’ for him in the summer and wants to get his career back on track at the San Siro.

The report adds that a legal dispute could be on the horizon as Zaniolo’s family could sue Roma for putting ‘psychological pressure’ on the player.

This situation has got quite messy over the last week or so. Roma will likely regret not taking up Tottenham’s loan offer with a conditional obligation to buy Zaniolo as the Serie A club are now left with an unhappy player and a potential legal battle while also taking a financial hit.
