Reported £50m rated Spurs target bluntly responds to transfer interest

West Ham central defender Issa Diop, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this month has now spoken about on his future.

The Express reported a week ago that Spurs wanted to bring Diop in to solve their defensive problems and were facing stiff competition from Chelsea for the defender’s signature.

The Sun claimed that Manchester United were also contemplating making an offer for the defender.

Despite the Hammers’ struggles in the Premier League this season, the 22-year-old centre back has continued to put in impressive performances at the back.

The report in The Express claimed that West Ham want £50 million if they are to part ways with the Frenchman this month.

Now Diop has spoken out about the rumours and has insisted that he pays no attention to what he reads in the papers.

When asked about his future, the former Toulouse defender told Foot Mercato: “I am not in negotiations, I don’t care to know which clubs are interested in me. So for me, nothing really changes.

“Most of the time, it is friends of mine sending me screenshots to say to me: ‘Issa, look…’ I am not even the person who finds out first.

“Aside from that, that is the game of the transfer window, some things are true, some things are false. So honestly, I don’t pay too much attention to it. Honestly, I don’t really give a s*** about what is in the newspapers.

“I am not at all concentrated on that. It doesn’t enter my thinking at all. ‘I leave people who are responsible to deal with that side. I just focus on football.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While he has said that he is focused on his football, it is worth noting that he has not rejected the possibility of a switch. I rate Diop highly and given his age, I believe he will be a bargain even for the reported £50 million price tag. However, I don’t expect us to sign a centre half this month as there are more urgent priorities.
