Reported Spurs and Chelsea centre-back target comments on PL rumours

Rumoured Tottenham target Pau Torres has spoken of his admiration for the Premier League ahead of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham have been backed to make another approach for Torres after failing to get a deal for the centre-back over the line last summer, with the North London club reportedly willing to use Giovani Lo Celso as a makeweight in the deal (Football Insider).

According to reports, Villarreal are willing to cash in on the Spain international this summer, amidst interest from the Premier League (La Razon).

Spurs are allegedly facing competition from the likes of Manchester United (Manchester Evening News) and Chelsea (La Razon) for the 26-year-old’s services.

The Spain international’s contract reportedly has a release clause of around €60m (£50.7m), which will become active this summer (Fabrizio Romano).

Ahead of the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Villarreal and Liverpool, Torres admitted that the Premier League is a ‘high-level’ competition just like La Liga.

Commenting on the links with England, he told TuttoMercatoWeb ahead of the Yellow Submarine’s 3-2 loss: “The Premier League is a high-level league, just like La Liga.

“Today I don’t care about anything else, except play the Champions League semi-final with the team of my city.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that Fabio Paratici rates Torres highly, given that Spurs made a big offer for the centre-back last summer. However, I am not sure paying £50m for the 25-year-old would be the right way to go as there are arguably options out there like Alessandro Bastoni who would represent better value for money.
