Reported Spurs target flattered by interest – reveals future will be decided in weeks

Tottenham Hotspur will be in the market for a new playmaker this summer after Christian Eriksen revealed he is looking for a step-up and a new challenge (Ekstra Bladet).

One man who Spurs have been linked with in this position is Monaco and Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans (Telegraph).

Monaco appear willing to sell the playmaker after loaning him out to Leicester City for the second half of last season.

Tielemans scored four goals in just 13 games for the Foxes after his January move, instantly impressing in the Premier League.

He is still only 22-years-old, and has now revealed that he is flattered by the reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur this transfer window.

He also added that he expects his future to be decided in the coming weeks, stating that several clubs have already shown an interest in his services.

Tielemans is currently on international duty with Belgium, and perhaps the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld can tempt him over to North London.

Tielemans said (Sky Sports): “We’ll see which club it will be. The only thing I can say is things are moving. A lot of clubs have shown interest. We will see in the next few weeks who it will be.

“Yes [I am flattered by Man Utd and Spurs interest], they are really big teams in England and in Europe. To hear those names gives me confidence. I just try to play my game on the pitch and try my best.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I am not sure if I have seen enough of Tielemans to say that I want him as Spurs’ long-term Eriksen replacement, but if Tottenham can get him at a decent price, then he is well worth a look. I was impressed with his form for Leicester last season, albeit only in a handful of games, and would be interested to see more.
