Reported Spurs target joins Spanish club on loan until the end of the season

Tottenham Hotspur may have shot themselves in the foot when it comes to their apparent pursuit of Barcelona youngster Carles Alena.

The 21-year-old came through the Barca academy and broke into the first-team in recent years, but has been restricted in his game time this season.

Alena has only appeared in four La Liga games this season, being left out of the squad for eight matches this season (TransferMarkt).

While the midfielder has featured in three of the last four La Liga matches for his boyhood club, he is not set to go out on loan for the rest of the season.

Marca reported this week that Alena had joined up with Real Betis for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign, the very club that Spurs raided for Giovani Lo Celso on loan in the summer.

Alena was reportedly a target of Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino earlier in the season (Sun), although they will be unable to get him in January now.
