Reported Spurs target reacts to being labelled the ‘Dereham Deco’

Reported Spurs target, Todd Cantwell, has revealed his pride at being compared with former Portuguese great, Deco.

Cantwell has been one of the few bright sparks in what has been a disappointing season for Norwich City, a club that has been rooted to the bottom of the table for the majority of the campaign.

The 21-year-old has not only been one of the Canaries’ best players but has also been one of the brightest young talents to emerge in the Premier League this season.

The Daily Mail reported last month that Spurs were monitoring the 21-year-old, who is said to be valued at £30 million by Norwich.

Football Insider reported earlier this month that, while Liverpool are also interested in the midfielder, Spurs were confident of beating the Reds to his signature.

The youngster’s playing style has now attracted comparisons with former Barcelona star Deco, with the Norwich man often being called the ‘Dereham Deco’.

When asked what he thought of the nickname, Cantwell said in an interview with the Premier League’s YouTube channel: “What an honour, what a fantastic footballer he was and if I can emulate his career in any way it will be a successful one.

“I think it was something that was spoken about as a little bit of a joke but then it caught on and now it has stuck and is one I won’t argue with.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Cantwell is a top talent who is still quite raw and nowhere near his peak. I believe he is likely to be even better next season after having got used to the pace and intensity of the Premier League. It would be wise of us to snap him this summer when his value is still relatively low.
