Reported Spurs target’s agent insists player was never for sale

Roma midfielder, Nicolo Zaniolo was never going to leave the Stadio Olympico this summer according to his agent.

Tottenham were linked heavily with Zaniolo with The Mirror claiming that the Lilywhites were seriously considering a £40 million offer.

The lanky left footer shot to prominence with his performances in the Serie A last season and established himself as an important part of the Roma side and broke into the Italian national team.

Zaniolo’s agent Claudio Vigorelli told The Daily Mail last month that Spurs’ interest in Zaniolo was serious and that they decided to go for Giovani Lo Celso over the Italian international in the end.

The 20-year-old ended up staying at the Italian capital and signing a new contract with the club. Vigorelli has now changed tune and admitted that Zaniolo was never likely to leave Roma

Speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, he said, “There have never been tensions. Roma wanted to make Nicolò feel important, for which now the difficulty comes because he knows that he must do even more seriously.

“There have been appreciations from many sides, but Roma has never wanted to sell Zaniolo.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is likely that Spurs considered him as an alternative to Lo Celso. I believe Tottenham certainly got their hands on the better player. I expect the Argentine to become an important player for the side and dictate games from midfield once he settles.
