Reported Tottenham target has been banned from football for eight months

Ivan Toney has been banned from football for the next eight months after he accepted breaking FA betting rules (BBC Sport).

Toney was guilty of a total of 232 betting breaches and has been fined £50,000 to go along with his eight-month suspension from football.

However, the Premier League star will be allowed to return to training on September 17, four months before his football ban is due to end on January 17, 2024.

This means Toney will only miss the first half of next season and, thanks to the training allowance, he should be fit enough to make an immediate start in January.

Football Insider reported earlier this year that Spurs have an eye on the Brentford striker in case Harry Kane leaves this summer.

Ironically, Toney will miss the match against Tottenham this weekend in the Premier League, which will be the first game of his eight-month suspension.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Toney would be an ideal replacement for Harry Kane if he does leave Tottenham.

I suppose there is a chance that the Brentford striker will be available at a discount this summer due to his suspension, if Spurs wanted to take a gamble of their own.
