Reported Tottenham target labels Spurs as ‘my favourite’

Tottenham Hotspur are under a week away from the biggest match in their recent club history, as they take on Ajax in the Champions League final on Tuesday.

Spurs have never made it this far in the competition but will be aiming to go one step further and reach the final.

Tottenham and Ajax may be the two surprise packages in the Champions League this year, but both have high quality, young sides at their disposal, and it’s difficult to pick a winner.

Unfortunately, Tottenham will be without Harry Kane and Heung Min Son for their home leg, through injury and suspension respectively (Sun).

The first leg is set to be played at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Tuesday, with Spurs having to first negotiate a Premier League London derby against West Ham at the weekend.

However, despite injuries and a hectic schedule, Ajax’s Donny Van de Beek claims that Spurs are the favourites to make the Champions League final.

Van de Beek, previously linked to Tottenham (Calciomercato), had this to say (Quoted by Ajax 1): “I don’t agree with that. Tottenham is one of the top teams in the Premier League and they are still my favourite.

“That does not mean that we cannot beat them. We will have to reach a high level to beat Tottenham. It will depend on our own form. let’s hope it is top.

“We are not afraid anyway. The only thing we can do is reach the same level as we have achieved in other competitions. We know it’s a top team.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

We at Spurs Web believe that Tottenham may have edged the tie as favourites if not for the injury to Harry Kane, Son’s suspension, and doubts over the availabilities of Sissoko, Winks, Lamela, and Aurier. A fully fit and firing Spurs would likely be tipped to overcome Ajax across two legs, but this young Dutch side has shown that they can beat anyone on their day. For these reasons, I would say that it is pretty much the flip of a coin at the moment.
