Reported Tottenham target out for nine months after horror ruptured ACL injury

Real Madrid winger, Marco Asensio, suffered a horror injury in pre-season late last night, as Los Blancos took on Arsenal in the US (BBC).

Asensio actually scored in the match before he was stretchered off due to a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and external meniscus of his left knee.

The winger will now undergo surgery over the next few days, but initial reports indicate that he could be out for up to nine months (Sport).

Real Madrid were 2-0 down before Gareth Bale pulled one back and Asensio levelled, but the Spaniard only lasted another five minutes on the pitch.

This puts an end to any chance that Asensio could move away to a new club this transfer window, with Tottenham being linked with the star.

The Sun claimed that Spurs wanted Asensio as part of a swap deal for Christian Eriksen last month, while the Express also said that Tottenham were interested.
