Reported Spurs target suffers serious injury that may have ended his season

Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo, who is said to be on Spurs’ radar (Tuttomercatoweb), could be out of action for the rest of the season after suffering a horrible injury in the clash against Juventus on Sunday.

Zaniolo was linked heavily with a move to Spurs last summer (Corriere dello Sport) but the deal didn’t materialize in the end. The 20-year-old has continued his fine form into this season notching up six goals in all competitions for Roma so far (transfermarkt).

However, the midfielder’s season might have come to an abrupt end on Sunday after he was stretchered off 34 minutes into Roma’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus.

Roma initially confirmed that the silky left-footer had ruptured the ACL in his right knee and was set for an operation.

Since then, Football Italia have reported that Zaniolo could be out for up to six months and could thus miss the rest of the season as well as the Euros in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am a fan of Zaniolo and was hoping that we would return for him in January. However, this injury effectively rules out any chance of us going for him. I do believe that we could do with singing a wide forward this month as I feel we are short in that area. Moura is simply not consistent enough when he plays out wide.
