Reporter reveals Spurs scouts were in attendance at Champions League game last night

Tottenham Hotspur have not tasted Champions League football since they crashed out of the tournament at the hands of RB Leipzig in the round of 16 stage during the 2019/20 season.

Despite not being able to take part in European football’s most prestigious club competition, it appears that the club’s scouting network have been busy this week casting their eye over a fixture.

Melissa Ready, senior football correspondent at The Independent took to Twitter yesterday evening to reveal that Tottenham were one of a number of clubs who had scouts in attendance at the Estádio da Luz to watch Benfica host Barcelona.

Representatives from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Leeds United, Liverpool, Leicester City and Crystal Palace were also in attendance to see Benfica comfortably sweep aside a struggling Barcelona team 3-0.

While it is not known if the Spurs scouts were at the game to watch a particular target, or whether it was a case of seeing which players stood out to add to their scouting report.

Spurs have conducted business with both clubs in recent times, having sold Jan Vertonghen and loaned Carlos Vinicius from Benfica, while also buying Emerson Royal from Barcelona during the summer transfer window.
