Reports claim Tottenham approached United for two key players

All the talk this summer was of a possible move for Toby Alderweireld to Manchester United, however, details have now emerged that Spurs actually made an enquiry over two key United stars.

The Manchester Evening News reported that Levy made contact with the Red Devils over possible deals for both Anthony Martial and Juan Mata.

It is said that Tottenham contacted United after Martial’s agent revealed that the young man wanted to leave Old Trafford, but the Manchester club are said to have quoted unrealistic prices to Tottenham’s Daniel Levy.

Now, the Anthony Martial news won’t surprise many Spurs fans, as the club has been linked with him for a long time now, dating back even before United signed the French winger, but the news surrounding Juan Mata may raise a few eyebrows.

The former Chelsea man isn’t a name that was linked with Spurs at all this summer, so the news of an approach for the Spanish international is somewhat surprising.

It is unclear whether this was seen as a potential first team signing, or merely an option to strengthen the bench.

Reports say that both approaches were quickly rebuffed.

Would Juan Mata have made a good signing?
