Reports: Harry Winks agrees to join club on loan with option to buy from Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Harry Winks has now agreed to join Sampdoria on loan from Tottenham Hotspur for the 2022/23 season.

The journalist claims a deal will be completed in the next few days, with the final steps to be finalised over the coming hours before Winks flies over to Italy.

This comes after Gianluca Di Marzio reported last week that Sampdoria had moved into pole position in the race for Winks this summer.

Fabrizio Romano said on his Here We Go podcast that the Spurs midfielder was attracting interest from around Europe, especially in Spain. Meanwhile, the Evening Standard reported Nottingham Forest and Southampton were still keen in the Premier League.

The Standard claimed Winks had doubts about making the switch to Serie A, but it appears the Tottenham academy graduate has been convinced over the past few days.

Romano does not reveal whether the loan deal will include an option or obligation to buy, however, Tutto Mercato Web claim it will be a loan with an option to buy and Spurs will pay a portion of Winks’ wages. Meanwhile, DiMarzio claims it will be a ‘dry loan’.

Spurs Web Opinion:

It’s all about getting minutes for Winks now. I sense Spurs are protecting their assets and values ahead of next summer when the market may recover from COVID-19. However, a non-Premier League move for Winks may make it tricky for him to break into Gareth Southgate’s England plans again.
