Reports in France claim Spurs midfielder is close to finalising Ligue 1 transfer

According to reports coming out of France tonight, Victor Wanyama is on the verge of joining Ligue 1 side Amiens on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 28-year-old has barely featured this campaign and Jose Mourinho confirmed that he is somewhat down in the pecking order at the moment (Football.London).

Despite the Spurs boss suggesting that the Kenyan international is likely to stay at Spurs, France Football reports that the Lilywhites offered the midfielder to Amiens on loan until the summer earlier on deadline day.

The Ligue 1 outfit reportedly couldn’t afford the midfielder’s wages and Tottenham, as a result, are said to have offered to pay 70 per cent of the player’s salary.

On the back of that agreement, L’Equipe (relayed by GFFN) reports that the French club were able to come to an agreement with the former Southampton player.

The report adds that both parties are trying to thrash out all the details before the transfer window shuts this evening.

Wanyama had been earlier linked with a return to Celtic (Sky Sports).

Seeing as Wanyama is not going to get any game time, there was no point in keeping him around at the club. At least this way, he will play a few games which could help him build up his form and match sharpness. It will also be a great opportunity for him to be a shop window as bigger clubs will come in for him in the summer if he has a good spell in France.
