Reports in Italy confirm tragic passing of member of Spurs coaching staff

News is breaking this morning of the tragic passing of Tottenham Hotspur’s fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone.

The 62-year-old was known as ‘The Marine’ following his time at Juventus and was highly respected by all of the players who had trained under him (Daily Mail).

The Italian is reported to have passed away suddenly as a result of fulminant leukaemia (La Gazzetta dello Sport).

Vetrone joined Tottenham in November 2021 as part of Antonio Conte’s backroom staff and helped to significantly improve the conditioning of the players, who had looked lethargic under former boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

During the club’s pre-season tour of South Korea this summer, he made the players run 42 lengths of the pitch in 30-degree heat and 70 per cent humidity.

Spurs striker Heung-min Son recently spoke of his close bond with Ventrone in which the South Korean had given him support not only in relation to his career, but also with his general day-to-day life (Football.London).

Our thoughts at this sad time are with Gian Piero’s family and everyone at Tottenham Hotspur.
