Reports: Rangers manage to fend off interest from Spurs to agree new player contract

It has been reported that Rangers are set to sign a new deal with one of their most promising young defenders, despite interest from some Premier League heavyweights.

The Daily Record say that Tottenham, Arsenal, Man United, and Man City were all interested in 16-year-old defender, Leon King.

However, King is now said to have agreed terms with his current club over a new two-year contract that will see him become one of the highest-paid Rangers youngsters in history.

This came after King turned down Rangers’ initial contract offer, but has since reconsidered after a face-to-face meeting with manager Steven Gerrard.

While he has made matchday squads during his time at Rangers, King has yet to make a professional debut for the senior side.

Tottenham may be on the lookout for some fresh young defensive faces in their academy ranks with Jan Vertonghen out of contract in the summer and Alderweireld turning 31 today.
