Reports: Spurs could still be in line for financial boost if Everton sell Dele Alli

Sky Sports have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur may be in line to benefit financially if Dele Alli completes a move to Besiktas.

After a couple of difficult seasons at Spurs, where he struggled to get game time, Alli made the move to Goodison Park in January in an effort to revive his career. However, the 26-year-old struggled to make the expected impact during the second half of the season.

The Sun revealed last month that Everton owe Tottenham £10m if Alli makes 20 appearances for the club and the deal could potentially rise to £40m depending on performance-related add-ons.

The report explained that in order to avoid paying a fee for the midfielder, the Toffees could look to move the player on this summer before he has made the requisite 20 appearances.

That is what appears to be happening now, with Sky Sports revealing that the former Spurs man is in talks regarding a potential move to Besiktas.

The report states that Alli could either join the Turkish club on loan or permanently before the transfer window shuts.

Sky Sports imply that Tottenham will receive 25 per cent of any loan fee or transfer fee that Besiktas pay Frank Lampard’s men for the England international.

iNews have also reinforced this by reporting that Everton will owe Spurs a ‘significant proportion of the original fee’ if they sell Dele this summer.

Journalist Mark Douglas wrote: “Alli has been cleared to leave Everton for Besiktas, some way short of the 20 games that would require a £10m payment to Spurs on the transfer agreed back in January.

“It is not as simple as dodging the payment outright though. iNews understands that if the deal is agreed with the Turkish side, Everton will still have to pay Tottenham a significant proportion of the original fee agreed in another sign of Daniel Levy’s savvy dealing.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is understandable why Everton want to offload Dele as they would not want to pay the transfer fee, given their current financial situation. However, I am quite shocked that Dele is in talks with Besiktas as one would have thought that at least a few clubs in the top five leagues would have shown interest in the former Spurs man.
