Reports state Napoli and Spurs are keen on a player from either side

Tottenham Hotspur certainly need to make changes in their defence under Jose Mourinho, as they continue to leak goals in every match.

Jan Vertonghen is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning Spurs may need to sell up in January to avoid losing him for nothing.

While the 32-year-old has been a consistent pick for Mourinho of late, his performances at left-back and centre-back have left a lot to be desired.

However, Sky Sports now report that Napoli are interested in signing the defender, as they see him as an experienced head who could replace Kalidou Koulibaly. Koulibaly is said to be up for sale this month, although a summer transfer is more likely.

This news follows a report from El Desmarque back in December that stated Tottenham were already in talks with Napoli over a deal for Koulibaly.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Is it possible that we could see some kind of player plus cash swap deal? If Spurs could knock some of the price off Koulibaly with an ageing Vertonghen then that would be an incredible move by Levy.
